2022 Community Outreach Monthly Meeting Schedule // Calendario de Reuniones Mensuales

Below is the calendar for the monthly HNA Community Outreach Committee meetings. Our monthly meetings are the 3rd Monday of the month at 6:30pm and anyone can join to listen in, or participate in the conversation. Here’s the 2022 Hermosa Safety Meeting schedule. Each meeting can be joined by phone and/or online device.

What is the Hermosa Community Outreach Committee?

The Hermosa Neighborhood Association is seeking energetic neighbors and business owners to help strategize, in our action-based Outreach + Marketing Committee. This committee focuses on engaging with the community in various ways including events, HNA advocacy, volunteering, as well as social media and promotion of Hermosa-focused news.

2021 Year in Review: Hermosa Community Outreach Committee

What a year 2021 has been! The HNA is so proud of it’s Community Outreach Committee for accomplishing many goals this year, and we’d like to showcase some that we have worked hard on to connect with the community despite having limitations due to the COVID pandemic. Here are the 2021 highlights we created, volunteered for, helped promote or had a hand in. Special thanks to Alfonso V, Janette P, Alma K, Connie H and Lee H.

Here are the updates regarding Nixon Elementary playground and safety surrounding the school. // Aquí están las actualizaciones sobre el patio de recreo de Nixon Elementary y la seguridad que rodea a la escuela.

Playground Funding + Timing / Financiamiento del Parque + Tiempo

CPS (Chicago Public Schools) has officially stated they have budgeted $450,000 for the new playground. At the Thursday 11/4 meeting in the Nixon auditorium, they said they would start getting bids “in a few weeks.”

The expected completion timing is spring 2022.

The Hermosa Neighborhood Association, in collaboration with the Nixon community, is creating a contact list to update supporters about the playground. We are seeking volunteers and fundraising efforts.
After the news that the playground was set on fire, many community members want to help in healing, rebuilding of the playground, and have discussions on safety issues and concerns.

//La Hermosa Neighborhood Association en colaboración con la comunidad de Nixon, está creando una lista de contactos para actualizar a los partidarios sobre el patio de recreo. Buscamos voluntarios y esfuerzos de recaudación de fondos. Hermosa Cleanup / Limpiar Schedule

The Hermosa Neighborhood Association's summer cleanup schedule is in full swing! We are looking for individuals of all ages who can help pick up trash to beautify our parks, streets and greenspaces. Gloves and garage bags will be provided, dress according for the weather. // ¡El programa de limpieza de verano de la Asociación de Vecinos de Hermosa está en pleno apogeo! Buscamos personas de todas las edades que puedan ayudar a recoger la basura para embellecer nuestros parques, calles y espacios verdes. (May 2021) The Hermosa Neighborhood Association has just launched a new Dog Park and Fundraising Committee based on community interest in pursing a city-sanctioned off-leash space for our furry friends to mingle, get exercise and play. Hermosa does not have an off-leash area, which means all dogs must be on a leash outside of your own property. See City of Chicago guidelines.

The goal of the committee is to scout locations, plan a design, fundraise and implement a dog-friendly space. This is an effort that will take numerous volunteers, community engagement and significant fundraising. If other communities can do this, Hermosa sure can!

Hermosa's First 311 App Walk + Learn March 27th

The Hermosa Safety Committee is proud to host a 311 (non-emergency) App Walk and Learn March 27th, 2021 Saturday at 10am to 12pm. Bring your smartphone and we’ll give you tips on how to submit issues like potholes, tree trimming, graffiti, etc. The Chi 311 App gives a convenient way to alert the city of issues while you’re on-the-go. Sign up one of two locations in Hermosa!
