OUR HISTORY
HNA was founded in October 2014, at a local Hermosa bar called The Levee when several neighbors came together and decided to create an organization to bring structural change to their community. Neighbors included: Colin Bird, Alma Kreuser, Steven Wozny, Alejandra Fleck, and Matilda Montalvo-Lugo. The Hermosa Neighborhood Association was founded on the ideals of building community engagement and providing community resources for the residents living in Hermosa, Chicago.
Former HNA Directors: Marilynn Lopez, Sean Elliot, Maria Villagomez, Joelle McCalla, Sadiki McCalla, Leonardo Giron, Joshua "Xeno" Martinez, Angela Becker Serrano, Jenna Sigman, Kristen Pratt Kalaman, Casey Guerra and Karen Muñoz
Community cleanups
Community cleanups are part of our clean and green initiative to help create opportunities for residents to come together to help make our Hermosa hermosa. From cleaning up abandoned properties and forgotten crevices, clearing clogged storm drains and planting flowers as well as trees at our neighborhood schools and parks, HNA is dedicated to improving our community.
InaUgural COMMUNITY SOCIALS
In HNA’s first years, we have hosted several socials for Hermosa residents aimed at encouraging community participation, ownership, and support of local businesses and organizations. These socials included tours of local breweries as well as outings to restaurants, bars, and parks in the Hermosa community.
hermosa festival 2015
The Hermosa Fest was a cross-cultural community-led event designed to strengthen the neighborhood and forge togetherness among the Latino, Polish, and African American residents of our community. It was a collaborative effort between a growing collective of local community organizations invested in the betterment of the Hermosa neighborhood. The goal was to organize an event that not only features local artists, performers and vendors, but also has workshops and activities that encourage community engagement.
