Hermosa is Both a Neighborhood and an Official Chicago Community
Hermosa was identified as an official Chicago community over 100 years ago in the 1920s, along with 77 other community boundaries. You can read more about these community map designations here. That said, cultural connections, physical boundaries and movement of residents in and out of the area shift over time and “neighborhood” names are what most residents refer to when they talk about where they live. We’ve outlined a rough (and always debatable) map on how residents self-identify where they live. You can find out more about Hermosa’s history here.
